How I Attained a 5-Grade Jump in H2 Math With the Help of TGM (within 2 months!) - Blog post featured image

Before I begin sharing how I managed to pull my grades up at the very last minute, Id like to preface this by saying that last-minute catch-up work is by no means ideal.

Ive never been one to leave things till the final moment, but this was an exception I was dealing with personal matters in JC. To give you some context into my H2 Math journey before the A-Levels: I was never exceptional at it, but neither was I failing. In J1, I scored around the D range, achieving a high C (59/100) for my promos. However, entering J2, I was burnt out and began to neglect the subjects I disliked, including H2 Math. I started putting in minimal effort copying solutions from the school portal without understanding them and I eventually scored straight Us all the way to prelims. Then, the panic kicked in. With two months left before A-Levels, I was determined to salvage whatever I could. In the end, I managed to achieve a B grade for my A-Level H2 Math a 5-grade jump from prelims. This turnaround would not have been possible without the resources and guidance from TGM (Tim Gan Math). Heres what specifically helped make this improvement possible.

Online Student Learning Portal

Knowing that I had limited time to go through all 16 chapters, I figured the best way to revise was to practise and revisit concepts simultaneously. My school only provided past prelim papers, so I turned to TGMs Online Student Learning Portal. There, I found topical worksheets covering a wide range of A-Level-style questions each paired with a QR code linking to full video solutions. This made revision seamless and time-efficient, with step-by-step explanations and immediate feedback.

  1. Attempt a question on my own. 2. Check the written step-by-step solution to see if I understood my mistake. 3. If I was still unsure, Id watch Mr Gans video explanation, where he often highlighted common misconceptions. This workflow helped me progress quickly while making sure I truly understood each topic.

Revision Courses

If you didnt already know, Mr Gan conducts revision courses during: - The June holidays - Prelims period - The A-Level exam season These intensive sessions (about 4 lessons a week, at no extra cost) covered every H2 Math topic with worksheets designed to expose students to the various question types that could appear in the exams. I vividly remember pasting post-its on my worksheets to remind myself of recurring mistakes. Before the A-Levels, I reviewed these notes repeatedly. Since the classes were conducted online, I saved travel time and could revise more efficiently attending lessons from the comfort of my home.

Question Bank

After prelims, I committed to completing one 3-hour H2 Math paper per day. The H2 Math Question Bank became my best companion during this period.

  • Contained thousands of questions from past A-Level and school prelim papers. - Included video explanations and written solutions for every problem. - Questions were organised by topic, allowing me to target my weak areas efficiently. - Searchable I could quickly look up explanations for any question I was stuck on. This resource saved me countless hours and helped me reinforce concepts through consistent, focused practice.

Consultation

One thing I truly appreciated about Mr Gan was his approach to teaching and consultation. He always took the time to guide me step-by-step from where my working left off not forcing a specific method, but helping me build understanding logically. Unlike my school teachers, Mr Gans guidance helped me gain confidence and even start to enjoy the learning process. Every question became an opportunity to understand rather than just memorise.

Conclusion

I hope this has given you a clearer idea of how TGMs resources and support can transform your H2 Math experience. I was never a big fan of Math, but TGM made the journey much more bearable and fulfilling. > While I managed to pull my grades up last-minute, I strongly advise against it. Trying to cram two years of content into a few months is mentally exhausting and takes away the joy of learning. If I had been more consistent, Im certain I would have understood and appreciated Math more deeply and maybe even scored better. To all JC students reading this: Make the best of your time in school.

Stay consistent, seek help when needed, and hang in there it will all pay off in the end! ??
